NARRAGANSETT, RI. (THECOUNT) — Patrick Sweeney, 47, has been identified as the motorcyclist who died Friday following a collision with a pickup truck in Narragansett, Rhode Island, according to police.
Sweeney was riding south on Boston Neck Road when he attempted to pass southbound traffic while traveling in the northbound lane, police said. He then collided with a pickup truck that was turning onto Conanicut Road.
Sweeney was transported to South County Hospital following the crash. He was later pronounced dead.
The crash was reported at approximately 5:20 p.m. Friday on Boston Neck Road near Conanicut Road.
Police said the driver of the pickup truck remained at the scene following the collision and cooperated with investigators. No additional injuries were reported.
The circumstances surrounding the crash remain under investigation by the Narragansett Police Department.
Boston Neck Road is a major north-south route through Narragansett, a coastal community in Washington County in southern Rhode Island. The town is located approximately 30 miles south of Providence and is known for its beaches and summer tourism.
Authorities have not indicated whether additional charges or citations will result from the crash.
