RI Man Kenneth Norberg ID’d As Victim In Wednesday West Greenwich Fatal Single-Vehicle Crash

KENT COUNTY, RI. (THECOUNT) — Kenneth Norberg of Coventry, Rhode Island, has been identified as the victim in a fatal overnight single-vehicle crash in Kent County.

Norberg, 55, was killed in a single-vehicle crash near West Greenwich just after midnight Wednesday.

According to reports, Norberg was operating a vehicle on a West Greenwich highway, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 12:07 a.m. Wednesday. The vehicle then entered a culvert and rolled over multiple times.

Norberg was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

RI Woman Cara Mac Kenyon Arrested In Deadly Friday Night South Kingstown DUI Crash

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, RI. (THECOUNT) — Cara Mac Kenyon, of South Kingstown, has been identified as the suspect facing felony charges following a deadly crash Friday night.

Kenyon, 30, was charged with driving under the influence resulting in death, refusal to submit to a chemical test and obstruction.

According to officials, Alan Albergaria was on-foot in the area of Middlebridge Road, when he was fatally struck by a vehicle operated by Kenyon Friday night around 7:30 p.m.

Police said, Albergaria, 54, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

Kenyon, who according to social media is employed at Performance Physical Therapy, was taken into custody at the scene of the crash and arraigned at police headquarters. She was later posted a $10,000 bond and was released on her own recognizance.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.

RI Couple Shaylyn Moran Jack Doherty Arrested Over Pawtucket Murder Of Cheryl Smith

PAWTUCKET, RI. (THECOUNT) — Jack Doherty and Shaylyn Moran are facing charges over the murder of 54-year-old Pawtucket woman, Cheryl Smith.

Doherty, 23, was arraigned at Providence District Court on Thursday, facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder.

Shaylyn Moran, 18, was also charged with murder and the intent to commit homicide.

Authorities say they responded to 100 Baxter St. Wednesday night around 8:15 on a call of shots fired. When officials arrived, Smith was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her chest.

Smith was pronounced dead after she was transported to an area hospital.

Police said they arrested the couple at a hotel on George Street, shortly after, with authorities noting that Doherty had a 9mm handgun, reports TurnTo10.

Julie Cardinal Mother Of 5 ID’d As Victim In Thursday Babcock Village Assisted Living Shooting

WESTERLY, RI. (THECOUNT) — Julie Lynn Cardinal, an employee of the Babcock Village apartments assisted living center, has been identified as one of the victims in a deadly triple-shooting Thursday morning.

The 47-year-old mother of five was killed and two others injured in a shooting in Rhode Island on Thursday. The shooter, a 66-year-old resident of the facility, took his own life, police said.

The unidentified resident opened fire Thursday morning, shooting three people, Cardinal fatally, at the assisted living center located at 122 Cross St in Westerly, RI.

One of Cardinal’s co-workers, and a resident were injured. Their names were not released.

The shooter, who lived at the facility, was found dead inside a residence.

A gun was recovered at the scene.

Reports of gunfire at the Babcock Village apartments prompted Westerly public schools, Westerly Hospital and some nearby business into lockdown as a precaution, reported WCVB.

RI Wildlife Officials Warn Residents After Bear Opens Narragansett Woman’s Car Door

NARRAGANSETT, RI. (THECOUNT) — Animal officials in the Rhode Island town of Narragansett are warning residents to be on the lookout for bears trying to gain entry to vehicles by opening the door.

Narragansett Animal Control said a woman called Tuesday to report a bear outside her vehicle near Camp Varnum.

The massive animal was able to open the frightened woman’s car door who was then forced to fight the bear off.

“Thankfully, she was able to secure herself in her vehicle after the bear opened the car door and she fought to shut it from inside,” animal control tweeted.

Officials warned residents that if they encounter a bear, they need to secure themselves as quickly as possible, reports WVCB.

“Yes, it’s ‘cool,’” animal control tweeted. “But it is a bear, a wild animal.”

Officials also said bears can run about 30 mph, so driving away isn’t always an option.

Warwick RI Campus Evacuated ‘Immediately’ Wednesday Morning Until ‘Further Notice’

WARWICK, RI. (THECOUNT) — The Community College of Rhode Island said it was evacuating its Warwick campus Wednesday morning.

“Please evacuate the Warwick Campus immediately. Remain calm. Wait for further instructions,” CCRI said in a tweet. “Do not remain in the parking lot area.

CCRI did not give any indication what prompted the evacuation beyond a “public safety concern.”

The school said classes are suspended until further notice, report TurnTo10.

The evacuation was limited to CCRI Knight Campus, located on East Avenue, Warwick, RI.
