PAWTUCKET, RI. (THECOUNT) — Jack Doherty and Shaylyn Moran are facing charges over the murder of 54-year-old Pawtucket woman, Cheryl Smith.

Doherty, 23, was arraigned at Providence District Court on Thursday, facing multiple charges, including first-degree murder, as well as conspiracy to commit murder.

Shaylyn Moran, 18, was also charged with murder and the intent to commit homicide.

Authorities say they responded to 100 Baxter St. Wednesday night around 8:15 on a call of shots fired. When officials arrived, Smith was found suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to her chest.

Smith was pronounced dead after she was transported to an area hospital.

Police said they arrested the couple at a hotel on George Street, shortly after, with authorities noting that Doherty had a 9mm handgun, reports TurnTo10.
