NEW YORK, NY. (THECOUNT) — Sean Ono Lennon, the son of Beatles legend John Lennon and artist Yoko Ono, has become a father for the first time after welcoming a baby boy with longtime partner Charlotte Kemp Muhl.
Lennon, 50, announced the birth Tuesday, September 1, sharing a photo of himself, Muhl and their newborn son on social media. The couple named the baby Aurelius.

“Okay so…Charlotte and I would like to announce that we have indeed created a Human Bean! His name is, Aurelius! Thank you!” Lennon wrote.
The announcement marks the arrival of John Lennon’s first grandchild. Sean is the younger son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono and has followed his parents into music as a solo artist and member of several musical projects.
The couple shared several photographs of their newborn, including images of themselves holding Aurelius. Lennon also posted a photograph of Muhl holding their son in a hospital bed and affectionately captioned it, “Baby Momma!”
Muhl, 39, shared additional photographs of Aurelius while offering a humorous glimpse into the realities of becoming a new parent.
“We made a human!” Muhl wrote. “Am convinced DNA is agentic alien quaternary code. The sleep deprivation only adds to the surrealism… Burping technique tips welcome.”
She also joked about one of the less glamorous aspects of caring for a newborn, writing, “Meconium is crazy.”
The couple have apparently already begun introducing Aurelius to an eclectic musical world. Muhl revealed that they have been playing music by electronic artist Aphex Twin and Russian composer Igor Stravinsky for their son.
Aurelius is a name of Latin origin associated with meanings including “golden” and “gilded.” The name also carries a connection to ancient Rome through Marcus Aurelius, the Roman emperor and philosopher.
Lennon and Muhl have been together since 2007 after first meeting at the Coachella music festival in 2005. The pair have also collaborated professionally, including through their musical project The Ghost of a Saber Tooth Tiger.
Muhl is a professional model and musician who began modeling as a teenager and has worked with major fashion and beauty brands. She is also a singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist who has collaborated extensively with Lennon on their musical projects.
Sean’s arrival into fatherhood gives the Lennon family a new generation connected directly to one of the most influential musical legacies in history. John Lennon died in 1980, decades before his grandson’s birth.
Yoko Ono, 93, is now a grandmother to another generation of the Lennon family. Ono has largely maintained a private life in recent years.
Neither Lennon nor Muhl has publicly disclosed the exact date Aurelius was born.
