MIDDLEBURY CENTER, PA. (THECOUNT) — Charles Umble, of Westfield, Pennsylvania, has been identified as the victim in a fatal early Thursday crash near Wellsboro, PA, according to reports.
Umble, 36, was operating a pickup truck on Route 287 in the area of Marie’s Lane in Middlebury Township overnight when he was involved in a fatal single-vehicle crash early Thursday morning.
According to officials, Umble was traveling in a Dodge Ram pickup truck, when for unknown reasons, possibly weather related, the vehicle spun out of control while navigating a slight left hand curve on the roadway. The vehicle then exited the roadway flipped over into a swampy area of grass.
Umble was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.
According to the police report, heavy rain, wet road conditions, and speed were contributing factors to the crash. The driver was not wearing his seat belt at the time of the crash, reports WENY.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
