Airport Offers Free Flights In Bid To Win $1 MIL Fed Grant

Cape Air, a regional airport servicing New Hampshire, is giving away free flights (you only pay $12 tax) in an effort to qualify for $1 million in federal grant money.

The New Hampshire airport’s only airline, Cape Air is trying to garner at least 10,000 passengers by the end of the year by offing the crazy-low $12 flights.

The promotion ongoing since Christmas Eve, is attempting to board 10,000 folks and once they do, the FAA will shell out $1 million in grant money aimed at helping fund projects for the bustling community airport.

“The typical projects would be safety, runway and taxiway projects, and equipment purchases,” said Rick Dyment, manager of the Airport. “We would be able to improve the city’s airport with these funds.”

Cape Air expects to hit the 10,000 mark within the next day or so.

“By us [Cape Air] lowering that fare, it was our attempt to support the airport and get them to the 10,000 enplanement level,” said Dyment, “The timing was ideal because it was a holiday week and people had flexibility and the freedom to travel.”

Great idea! Now if we can get a service like this in Hollywood, perfect! But let’s face it, that will never happen because $1 million in Hollywood is chump change…
