HAWKINS COUNTY, TN. (THECOUNT) — Edward McMillan, of Gate City, Virginia, has been identified as the drowning victim following a boat capsize in Hawkins County, Tennessee Saturday afternoon.
“Eddie” McMillan, 71, drown after a vessel he was fishing from capsized in Quarryville on Saturday.
According to reports, McMillan was fishing onboard a 14’ Gheenoe along with a juvenile male, when the boat overturned near Mooresburg. Both passengers went overboard about 60 yards off the bank.
After falling out of the flat-transom canoe, the young man swam while towing McMillan to shore. Despite the heroic efforts of the boy, McMillan did not survive.
Neither occupant was wearing a personal flotation device.
The incident remains under investigation.
