CLAY COUNTY, FL. (THECOUNT) — Carl “CJ” Powell has been identified as the pilot in a triple-fatal small plane crash Wednesday in Clay County.
Jeff Thomas and a woman named Regina, have been identified as the other two victims, according to family and friends.
Regina’s last name was not provided as of Thursday.
Powell, who had 20 years of experience flying planes, was operating, “Miss Anne,” a single-engine Beechcraft Musketeer, when it crashed into a heavily wooded area shortly after taking off around 9 a.m.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation by the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board.
Powell volunteered as an officer with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office as well as with the organization Pilots N Paws, according to sources.
