PHOENIX, AZ. (THECOUNT) — Daymond Deray Hayes, the suspect in a shooting at a west Phoenix mall in Arizona Tuesday, has been arrested after the teenage victim died in an area hospital.
Hayes, 27, was taken into custody in the area of Central Avenue and Broadway Road on Thursday in Phoenix. Officials didn’t say how the suspect was tracked down.
According to police, the shooting occurred on Tuesday afternoon at Desert Sky Mall near 75th Avenue and Thomas Road.
The 15-year-old male victim was found shot inside the mall near the food court. He was transported to a hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
The victim’s name has not been released, according to AZFamily.
Police said it all started with an argument between two groups of kids and young adults. Things escalated and Hayes pulled out a gun. The groups took off from the mall after the shooting.
