FL Man Juan Rosa Shot Dead In Auburndale Police Incident Shooting Thursday

AUBURNDALE, FL. (THECOUNT) — Juan Rosa has been identified as the victim fatally shot in a Auburndale, Florida police-involved shooting Thursday night.

Polk County Sheriff’s deputies say they were forced to shoot Rosa, 35, who was acting erratically late Thursday.

According to Polk Sheriff Grady Judd, Rosa pointed a weapon at deputies after they responded to the family’s home, located at, 301 Congress Ave in Auburndale, FL around 8:30 p.m. Thursday.

According to reports, Rosa’s mother contacted police around 8:30 p.m. to report Rosa acting in a combative mood and in a rage. She advised police that her son told her if she called 911, he would kill himself.

When a sergeant and deputy arrived and announced their presence, Rosa displayed a handgun. He then ignored deputies’ commands to drop the gun and pointed weapon at police.

Police opened fire striking Rosa.

Rosa was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

“At 35 years of age he didn’t want to live any longer,” Judd said during a news conference. “And unfortunately I’ve got a sergeant and a deputy that are going to have to live with the fact that they had to shoot to protect themselves from what they believed to be imminent death,” reports BayNews9.

There are now four independent investigations into the shooting. The deputy and sergeant are now on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure.
