LA Man Rodney Cagle ID’d As Victim In Macedonia Ultralight Plane Crash

MACEDONIA, AL. (THECOUNT) Federal transportation officials have identified Rodney Cagle of Macedonia, as the pilot who was killed after a small plane he was operating crashed into several houses.

FAA officials are investigating after an ultralight plane Cagle, 54, was piloting, crashed in an Alabama community Monday.

Police said Cagle had recently obtained the aircraft and was on practice runs at the time of the crash.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says it responded Monday about 7 p.m. in the Macedonia community. Authorities found an ultralight plane that had crashed between two houses. The pilot was identified as 54-year-old Rodney Cagle of Macedonia. First responders say Cagle was still strapped into the plane and alive when they found him, but died shortly after. His body has been taken to the Department of Forensic Sciences for an autopsy. source

Local authorities stated the experienced pilot was practicing touch-and-go landings and ended up crashing into a tree.

Officials with the Federal Aviation Administration arrived Tuesday and have taken over the investigation into the cause of the crash.
