One worker was said to be severely injured Thursday after being involved in an explosion and blaze at the Tortillas Mexico tortilla factory located in Denver, Colorado.
The injured employee and resulting fire occurred after a industrial kitchen boiler exploded, say officials.
The call came in at 5:28 p.m. as thick, dark smoke quickly covered the sky above the factory located at 840 West 11th Avenue. Firefighters say they pulled a “pretty severely injured” person from the building and transported them to Denver Health Medical Center. It’s not clear what type of injury the person had. source
Employees told Denver7 that a boiler inside the kitchen exploded and then caught fire.
A spokesperson with Denver Fire said at least 60 firefighters were dispatched to fight the two-alarm blaze.
The cause of the boiler failure and resulting fire are under investigation.
