MOUNT VERNON, OH. (THECOUNT) — Dylan Severns, 24, of Mount Vernon, was killed in a motorcycle crash Saturday night, according to the Mount Gilead Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Troopers said Severns was operating a Kawasaki KX100 dirt bike northbound on Walnut Alley at approximately 10:53 p.m. when the crash occurred. As he approached the intersection of Sunset Street, he traveled off the north side of the roadway and struck a utility pole guy wire, authorities said.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Severns was transported from the scene by Mount Vernon Fire/EMS to Knox Community Hospital, where he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Officials reported that Severns was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
A guy wire is a high-tensile, tensioned cable designed to provide lateral stability and structural support to tall, free-standing structures such as utility poles. The cables are anchored into the ground and are intended to stabilize poles against wind load and other environmental forces. According to troopers, the dirt bike struck one of these support cables after leaving the roadway.
No other vehicles were reported to be involved in the crash. The incident has been described as a single-vehicle accident.
The crash occurred within the city of Mount Vernon in Knox County. Mount Vernon is located in north-central Ohio and serves as the county seat of Knox County. The Ohio State Highway Patrol’s Mount Gilead Post is responsible for investigating serious injury and fatal crashes throughout the region.
Troopers have not released additional information regarding possible contributing factors, including speed, impairment, or roadway conditions. Authorities have stated that the crash remains under active investigation.
Assisting agencies at the scene included the Mount Vernon Police Department, Mount Vernon City Fire/EMS, and On the Spot Towing. Emergency personnel responded shortly after the crash was reported and secured the scene while troopers conducted their preliminary investigation.

Following Severns’ death, a GoFundMe campaign titled “Honoring Dylan’s Memory by Helping His Family” has been established to assist his family with expenses. The fundraiser was created in the days after the crash and is accepting donations online.
