SAVANNAH, GA. (THECOUNT) — Savannah Police have apprehended 31-year-old Terrell Akeem Nelson in connection with the fatal shooting of his former girlfriend, 34-year-old Cantrelle Hayes-Ross. The incident occurred on Thursday morning at Friend Zone Learning, a daycare facility owned by Cantrelle, located in the 1400 block of Augusta Avenue.
Authorities report that Cantrelle was shot multiple times. Police responded to the scene after a ShotSpotter alert but were unable to save her from the fatal injuries. The community gathered over the weekend for a candlelight vigil and balloon release in her memory, honoring her contributions as a daycare owner and her presence within the Savannah community.

Extensive Criminal History Linked to Suspect
Nelson has been charged with murder, aggravated assault, and parole violation in connection with the shooting. He remains in custody under a hold with the Georgia Department of Corrections. Nelson has a long history of criminal activity, with records indicating multiple previous arrests and convictions.
In 2018, Nelson was convicted of crimes including armed robbery, probation violation, possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a crime, and aggravated assault. He served three years in prison and was released in 2021. Additionally, Nelson was implicated in a 2013 murder case at age 19, when he and another individual were charged with the fatal shooting of Achmed Williams. Despite eyewitness testimony, both were acquitted in that case.
