GRAND ISLE COUNTY, VT. (THECOUNT) — Russell Giroux, of Alburgh, Vermont, has been identified as the victim who died Tuesday night following a fight during a middle school basketball game in Grand Isle County.

According to reports, 7th and 8th-grade boys were competing in a basketball game between Alburgh and St. Albans at the Alburgh Community Education Center, when a brawl broke out Tuesday night.
Witnesses say, during the fight several people were tackled, shoved, kicked and punched at the Community Center at 45 Champlain Street in Alburgh.
Giroux was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Giroux’s body is being transferred to the medical examiner’s office to determine a cause and manner of death.
