WARD COUNTY, ND. (THECOUNT) — Justin Charles McDermott, of Minot, North Dakota, has been identified as the suspect arrested Friday morning following a fatal shooting in Ward County.

McDermott, 34, was taken into custody following a fatal shooting at the Lamplighter Lounge in Minot early Friday morning.

According to reports, police responded to a call of shots fired outside the bar at 16th Street Southwest in Minot around 1:40 a.m. Friday. When they arrived, officers found McDermott detained by several individuals who had witnessed the fatal shooting of 36-year-old male.

The unidentified victim was pronounced dead of multiple gunshot wounds at the scene.

Investigators determined that bar patrons witnessed the incident. During the incident, one patron disarmed McDermott and was assisted by another person in detaining him until police arrived.

McDermott was later charged with murder. He is currently being held at the Ward County Jail.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
