NEW YORK, NY. (THECOUNT) — Shanice Aviles, the suspect arrested following a Monday morning home invasion at the Manhattan townhome of actor Robert De Niro, is a recidivist criminal who was stabbed in a similar home invasion in October.

Early Monday morning, Aviles, 30, was stealing Christmas presents under De Niro’s Christmas tree, when cops – who had been trailing her due to her committing six priors burglaries – entered the home and caught her in the act. De Niro was sleeping upstairs and appeared only after hearing a commotion.

In October 2022, Aviles broke into another Upper East Side apartment – also while a tenant was sleeping – and was stabbed in the thigh during an altercation with that elderly victim.

“The victim found Aviles hiding in the kitchen, according to cops. The two fought and Aviles was stabbed in the leg.

Responding officers grabbed Aviles as she escaped the building, police said. She was charged with burglary and criminal possession of stolen property.

Police said she is also responsible for a burglary in the same building on Oct. 3. In that case, an 81-year-old woman woke up in her studio apartment around 4 a.m. when she heard someone open her front door.

When she investigated, the senior realized that a set of keys, $200 in cash and a black backpack had been taken, cops said, according to NYPost.”

At that time, Aviles, who entered the two apartments in the early hours while the tenants were sleeping, was arrested on charges of burglary. She had also targeted a unit in the same building earlier that same week.
