BERKS COUNTY, PA. (THECOUNT) — Xavier Starks, of Reading Pennsylvania, has been identified as the deceased shooter in an attempted murder-suicide that injured two people Thursday in Berks County.
Starks, 23, opened fire on Staci Alisse Vereen, 23, and Travis Ritter, during an apparent domestic assault outside the Digestive Disease Associates building in Wyomissing on Thursday morning.

According to reports, Starks was operating a vehicle when he pulled behind Vereen as she arrived to work at the medical facility at 1011 Reed Avenue in Wyomissing. The two engaged in an argument, when at some point, Starks shot Vereen in the neck and face.
Ritter, who tried to disarm the gunman, was also shot during the incident.
Vereen and Ritter were transported to Reading Hospital for treatment of gunshot wounds. Vereen was then transferred to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia.
Arriving first responders at Digestive Disease Associates found Starks deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot.
Ritter, who also works at the facility, was shot in the upper chest and remains in critical but stable condition.
Vereen’s condition was not provided.
