BELOIT, WI. (THECOUNT) — James Tomten, of Beloit, Wisconsin, has been identified as the victim of a fatal shooting in Beloit on Saturday afternoon.
Tomten, 28, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound in a homicide that occurred in the 800 block of Vine Street Saturday around 2:40 p.m., according to the City of Beloit Police Department.

Police arrived to Vine Street on calls of shots fire.
Tomten was found unresponsive by neighbors who then reported the incident to police. Upon arrival, Tomten’s death was ruled the result of “homicidal firearm trauma,” say authorities.
The suspect and the victim had a relationship or knew each other, according to the City of Beloit Police Department. The department does not believe that there is an ongoing threat to the community at large, reports NBC15.
Neighbors said they did not hear or see anything suspicious leading up to the fatal incident.
Tomten was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.
The investigation is ongoing.
