Elvis “Suspicious Minds” Guitarist Reggie Young Passes Away

MEMPHIS, TN. (THECOUNT) — Reggie Young, the guitarist heard on countless iconic country and rock hits, has passed away. He was 83.

Young, who played on countless records and multitudes of hits, including Dobie Gray’s “Drift Away,” Elvis Presley’s “Suspicious Minds” and “In The Ghetto,” and Dusty Springfield’s “Son Of A Preacher Man,” died on Thursday, Jan. 17 at his home in Leipers Fork, Tennessee, according to reports.

Young was born in Caruthersville, Missouri on Dec. 12, 1936 and then raised in Osceola, Arkansas. He met his wife Jenny Lynn Hollowell in 1999, and they married in 2004.

He leaves behind a musical legacy that cannot be overstated, reports wmcactionnews5.

If you have ever turned on a radio be it a country, rock, or classic pop station you have heard the guitar playing of Reggie Young.

He also recorded country albums with Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, and Waylon Jennings and a fellow named Bob Dylan as well.

At least 20 Dead 60 Burned In Horror Mexico City Friday Night Pipeline Explosion

MEXICO CITY, MX. (THECOUNT) — A massive fire erupted following an explosion at a pipeline leaking fuel in central Mexico on Friday. The blast reportedly killed at least 20 people and badly burning 60 others as locals collected the spilling gasoline in buckets, officials said.

The leak was caused by fuel thieves illegally tapping the pipeline in a small town in the state of Hidalgo, about 62 miles (100 kilometers) north of Mexico City, according to state oil company Petroleos Mexicanos, or Pemex.

Video footage showed dozens of residents near the town of Tlahuelilpan gathered to collect spilled fuel in buckets, garbage cans and other vessels. MA Man Matt Zonghetti ID’d As Victim In Thursday NM Taos Ski Valley Avalanche

TAOS, NM. (THECOUNT) — Matt Zonghetti has been identified as the Mansfield, Massachusetts, man killed in an avalanche at a New Mexico ski resort on Thursday.

Zonghetti, a recent grad of Mansfield High School, was killed in an avalanche that occurred around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, near the highest peak of Taos Ski Valley.

Ski Patrol and first responders were working to rescue an unknown number of skiers buried in an avalanche at Taos Ski Resort in New Mexico on Thursday, reported nbcconnecticut.

Two other skiers were pulled from the snow after a roughly 20-minute rescue effort, according to a resort spokesman.

Superintendent of Schools Teresa Murphy released a statement following the tragic news:

“Matt Zonghetti was an outstanding Mansfield High School student-athlete and citizen, We are proud to consider him one of our own. His death is a tragic loss and our school community is heartbroken,” the statement said in part.

TN Man Charles Shelton ID’d As Victim Found Shot Dead On Cash Hollow Road Wednesday Night

WASHINGTON COUNTY, TN. (THECOUNT) — Charles Shelton, of Lewisburg, Tennessee, has been identified as the victim in a fatal Wednesday night Washington County shooting.

“Rooster” Shelton, 31, was found suffering from at least one gunshot wound Wednesday night in a shooting that occurred at 415 Cash Hollow Road, in Johnson City, Washington County, TN.

Deputies responded to an “altercation between parties just before 9 p.m. Wednesday and discovered Shelton’s body on an adjacent property.

Shelton was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.

The sheriff’s office says charges are pending – but did not elaborate.

The shooting remains under investigation and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation is assisting, according to WJHL.

KY Victims In Thursday Triple-Fatal Owensboro Shooting Identified

OWENSBORO, KY. (THECOUNT) — Jay Michael Sowders, 43, Robert D. Smith Jr., 35 and Christopher Carie, 18, have been identified as the victims of a triple-fatal shooting in Owensboro, Kentucky, Thursday.

A fourth victim, identified as, Carmen R. Vanegas, 35, is currently being treated for her injuries in a deadly shooting that occurred Thursday around 11 a.m. in the 900 block of Audubon Avenue, in Owensboro, Kentucky.

Police responded to a call of shots fired at the Owensboro home. Upon arrival, deputies discovered four individuals suffering from gunshot injuries.

Two of the victims were pronounced dead at the scene, while a man and a woman were transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

One of those two victims later died at the hospital, while Vanegas remains in critical condition, according to 14News.

One person was taken in for questioning, but was later released. That person was not identified.

Arnett B. Baines, 30 of Owensboro, and Cylar L. Shemwell, 31 also of of Owensboro, were charged with 3 counts of Murder and one count of Assault in the 1st Degree in relation to this case, according to the briefing.

WI Man ID’d As Suspect Shot In Fatal South Dakota FBI-Involved Rest Stop Shooting Jan 13

WHITE LAKE, SD. (THECOUNT) — Nathan Thoe, from Hortonville, Wisconsin, was identified Friday as the suspect fatally shot by a federal officer at a rest stop in South Dakota.

The FBI says authorities were trying arrest Thoe, 34, when was shot dead by a federal officer while at a highway rest stop in South Dakota January 13, according to officials.

The FBI says an arrest warrant had been issued for Thoe because he was the subject of an ongoing investigation, reports gazettextra.

Officials say federal officers from more than one agency were attempting an arrest at the White Lake rest area on Interstate 90 in South Dakota Jan. 13 when Thoe was shot and killed.

Authorities have not said what prompted the fatal shooting.

The FBI says Thoe had been in and around Pierre in the past several months.

No other information was provided by officials.

GA Woman Ghadir Taher ID’d As Arabic Interpreter Killed In Wednesday Syria Suicide Blast

EAST POINT, GA. (THECOUNT) — Ghadir Taher, who immigrated with her family to America from Syria, has been identified as the East Point, Georgia, Arabic interpreter, killed in Wednesday’s suicide bombing in Syria.

Taher, 27, died from injuries she suffered in the blast, that also took the life of 19 others.

The gruesome attack was later claimed by the Islamic State, reports wsbtv.

“Her smile lit up the room. She was kind. She was very easy to talk to,” Ali Taher said, his voice edged with emotion. “You could go on for hours, talking to her about your worries and about your troubles. And she would make them seem like they were hers.”

The family, he said, learned about her death from her employer, Valiant Integrated Services, a defense contractor.

“We are extremely saddened by the tragic and senseless passing of Ghadir Taher,” Valiant spokesman Tom Becker said in an email. “Out of respect to her family, we will make no further comment at this time other than to say she was a talented and highly-respected colleague, loved by many, who will be dearly missed.” Continue reading

Highly Decorated JBLM Sgt. Cameron A. Meddock Dies In Hospital After Injured In Afghanistan Combat Mission

TACOMA, WA. (THECOUNT) — Sgt. Cameron A. Meddock, of Amarillo, Texas, assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at Joint AFB Lewis-McChord, in Washington, died Thursday in Germany after being wounded during combat operations in Afghanistan earlier in the week, according to the Defense Department.

Meddock was on his second deployment in support of Operation Resolute Support when he was mortally wounded during a combat mission in Afghanistan early in the week.

Meddock died “as a result of injuries sustained from small arms fire during combat operations on Jan. 13, 2019, in Jawand District, Badghis Province, Afghanistan,” according to a statement the department released Friday, according to reporting by QFox13.

Meddock, 26, of Amarillo, Texas, was assigned to 2nd Battalion, 75th Ranger Regiment at JBLM.

“Sergeant Cameron Meddock is one of America’s precious Sons. The entire Nation should strive to emulate the Warrior, Patriot and Husband that Cameron was. The 75th Ranger Regiment will forever honor Sergeant Cameron Meddock and his family will forever be a member of our Ranger family,” said Col. Brandon Tegtmeier, commander, 75th Ranger Regiment. ND Valley City HS Student Chase Jenison ID’d As Body Found Railroad On Tracks Thursday

BARNES COUNTY, ND. (THECOUNT) — Chase Jenison, of Valley City, North Dakota, has been identified as the body found on the Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks around 1:30 p.m. on Thursday.

Officers with the Barnes County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to the northeastern part of Valley City along the CP Railway for an unknown medical issue, according to NewsDakota.

Upon arrival, authorities discovered Jenison, a Valley City High School student, laying dead on the Canadian Pacific Railroad tracks, northeast of Valley City.

Officials have opened an unattended death investigation upon confirmation of deceased status.

Valley City School Superintendent Josh Johnson issued the following press release to students, parents and the media:

VA Man James Edwards ID’d As Victim In Thursday Fatal Elliston Crash Involving UPS Truck

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — James Patrick Edwards, of Elliston, Virginia, has been identified as the victim after a tractor-trailer collided with a passenger car on U.S. 460 Thursday, according to reports.

Edwards, 29, was killed in a crash involving a UPS tractor trailer around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday while traveling on Lee Highway in Elliston.

The driver of the UPS tractor-trailer was not injured, reports WDBJ7.

The victim’s vehicle collided with the 18-wheeler UPS truck, causing the passenger vehicle to be pinned underneath the truck.

No one was cited in the crash and there are no charges pending, according to officials.

Edwards was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force injuries suffered in the crash.
