NEWARK, DE. (THECOUNT) — In a shocking incident at a Shell gas station in Newark, Delaware, the Delaware State Police have arrested 31-year-old John D. Arce of Newark. Arce has been charged with multiple serious offenses including felony first-degree assault, felony first-degree robbery, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, and felony first-degree reckless endangering. The 38-year old victim was taken to a local hospital in critical condition.
The incident unfolded on Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at approximately 6:45 p.m. at the Shell station located at 380 E. Chestnut Hill Road. Police responded to reports of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle. According to the preliminary investigation, the 38-year-old relative was walking through the parking lot when Arce, driving a red passenger car, deliberately drove towards him at a high speed, hitting him.

Following the vehicular assault, Arce exited his car, stole the wallet of the victim, who is reported to be a family member, and then fled the scene. The victim was immediately transported to a local hospital by ambulance due to the severity of his injuries.
Arce turned himself in to the authorities on Friday, December 6, 2024. Following his arrest, he was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution where he is being held on a $185,000 cash bond.
