VERMILION COUNTY, IL. (THECOUNT) — Johnathon C. Gilbert, of Danville, Illinois, has been identified as the driver killed in a Monday morning police pursuit of a alleged stolen Mercedes Benz in Vermilion County.
“Jonathan” Gilbert, 24, was killed in a single-vehicle GTA crash during a police chase in Danville early Monday morning.

According to reports, police attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Mercedes early Monday morning near Main Street and Fairweight Street in Danville. At some point, the vehicle fled the scene before crashing into the porch of a home on the 300 block of North Griffin Street. The Mercedes then fled the scene of the crash before exiting the roadway and coming into contact with a tree in the 800 block of East Seminary Street.
Gilbert was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.
During an investigation, DPD determined that the Mercedes had been reported stolen from Tilton, Illinois.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation.
