IDAHO COUNTY, ID. (THECOUNT) — Richard Allan Scyphers, of Lewiston, Idaho, has been identified as the victim in a Sunday drowning in Idaho County.

According to reports, Scyphers entered the water in an effort to rescue a dog that was caught in the river’s current near the Pine Bar recreation area around 4:30 p.m. Sunday. According to his group, he did not resurface.
Fellow rafters later located Scyphers and transported him downriver to American Bar, where they were met by officials.
Scyphers, who was wearing a life vest, was pronounced dead of suspected drowning.
It is unknown if the dog survived.
