SACRAMENTO COUNTY, CA. (THECOUNT) — Police Officer Harminder Grewal, one of the two Galt, California police officers injured in a crash last Sunday in Sacramento County, has died in the hospital, according to the department.
Grewal, 27, a two-and-a-half-year veteran of the Galt Police Department, died Thursday of injuries suffered in a crash near Wilton last week.

Grewal and his partner were en route to help in the Caldor Fire when their vehicle was struck head-on by a pickup truck that had crashed through the center median and into northbound lanes of Highway 99 near Dillard Road, according to FOX40.
It is with profound sadness and a heavy heart that we share the news that Officer Harminder Grewal succumbed to his injuries on Thursday, August 26, 2021, following a head-on traffic collision with another vehicle that sent him and his partner to the hospital on Sunday, August 22, 2021. He made the ultimate sacrifice while performing his duties as a public servant, responding to danger.
Officer Grewal took pride in serving his community and his work ethic was contagious to all who worked with him. His service to our community will never be forgotten. Officer Grewal, a 2 ½ year veteran of the department, leaves behind a mother, father, brother and a countless number of family, friends, and loved ones. The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene and their two passengers were hospitalized, along with Grewal and his partner.
Grewal’s partner, Officer Kapri Herrera, sustained “major facial injuries” and will need several surgeries, according to her family.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
