BRISBANE, AUS. (THECOUNT) — Australian Rugby League star Mitchell Cronin was pronounced dead after being discovered unresponsive in his backyard swimming pool. He was 27.

Cronin was training at his Brisbane residence when he went for a swim and suffered an apparent medical episode.

According to reports, the Queensland Cup grand final captain had reportedly just completed a weight training session when he entered his pool and never emerged.

Cronin is believed to have suffered a heart attack.

An autopsy has been ordered.
