MIDLAND, VA. (THECOUNT) — The search is over for Levi Norwood, who is accused in the brutal murder of his mother and young brother in Midland, Virginia Friday night.

Norwood, 17, was apprehended in North Carolina, after an employee of a store reported a shoplifter to police, a sheriff’s office spokesman, Sgt. James Hartman said Saturday evening.

Hartman said a car that Norwood was suspected of stealing was recovered at the time of his arrest.

Norwood was charged with two counts of murder in the killing of Jennifer Norwood, 34, and her son Wyatt.

According to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded shooting at 12870 Elk Run Rd in Midland Friday evening. When they arrived, police discovered a woman and a child suffering from fatal gunshot injuries.

Police said the father was then confronted by his 17-year-old son, who fired several shots causing injury.

The dad escaped from the home, and then called 911, according to the sheriff’s office, reports 12NewsNow.

The father was taken to the hospital by EMS with injuries, according to the sheriff’s office. Officials said they believe the 17-year-old barricaded himself in the home. After several hours of trying to establish contact with the teen, police said they entered the home around 10:15 p.m. and after searching the residence, they believe the teen fled and is at large.

Levi Norwood is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Officials say Levi is a white male with short purple hair. He is 5-foot-9, weighs 125 pounds and has brown eyes. It is unknown what type of clothing he is wearing.
