NEW KENT COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Jace T. Jefferson, of Providence Forge, has been identified as the teen driver killed in a single-vehicle crash early Friday morning, according to reports.

Jefferson, 18, was killed early Friday morning on US-60 in New Kent County, according to Virginia State Police.

According to the crash report, Jefferson was operating a vehicle on Pocahontas Trail near GW King Boulevard, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway. The vehicle then collided with a grouping of trees.

Jefferson was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma injuries.

“The trooper’s preliminary investigation reveals that a 2012 Toyota Tacoma [driven by Jefferson] was traveling eastbound on Route 60 when he ran off road left striking several trees,” a Virginia State Police spokesperson said. “Jefferson was not wearing his seat belt,” reports WTVR.

Investigators said it appeared driver fatigue played a role in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
