BALTIMORE, MD. (THECOUNT) — We may now know what Rep. Elijah Cummings‘ wife, – Maya Rockeymoore Cummings, (the head of the Maryland Democratic Party,) meant when she said her husband “worked until his last breath.”

Cummings died Thursday in what his office described as ‘complications concerning long standing health challenges,’ but according to reports, that did not stop the Rep from working right up to his final moments on this earth.

So what did Cummings do with the final hours of his life? He apparently signed subpoenas against President Trump and even jumped on several conference calls pertaining to ongoing and never ending investigations of the President.

The longtime Rep ultimately succumbed to a number of health problems, his office said in a statement Thursday. Though he entered Johns Hopkins Hospital for a heart procedure in September and never returned to Congress, as his wife has now confirmed, he never stopped working, not until “his last breath.”

He would pass away at 2:45 a.m. on Thursday – the subpoenas were delivered to the agencies just one day before that, on Wednesday afternoon.

The subpoenas signed by Cummings request records related to the decision to end deferred action — temporary relief from deportation — including emails, memoranda, and guidance, and discuss “the rationale and transition process for the deferred action policy change.”

The subpoenas also request documents regarding the collaboration between ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) and USCIS (U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services) before the change took effect, reports Lifezette.

“Elijah Cummings was kept busy to the very end of his life leading an investigation into Donald Trump before passing away at the age of 68 on Wednesday, his aides have said,” as The Independent noted.

“The chairman of the House Oversight Committee was signing subpoenas from his hospital bed, one aide told The New York Times.”

“He also helped lead a Democratic caucus conference call … House Speaker Nancy Pelosi described Mr. Cummings as a ‘north star’ who spoke with ‘unsurpassed clarity and moral integrity’ on the House floor.”

“Despite not having participated in a roll call vote since September,” The Independent also noted, “the late congressman was continuing to spearhead the oversight committee’s impeachment inquiry into Mr. Trump along with two other House committees handling the investigation.”

“Congressman Cummings was an honorable man who proudly served his district and the nation with dignity, integrity, compassion and humility,” Maya Rockeymoore Cummings said in a statement released on Thursday. “He worked until his last breath because he believed our democracy was the highest and best expression of our collective humanity and that our nation’s diversity was our promise, not our problem. It’s been an honor to walk by his side on this incredible journey. I loved him deeply and will miss him dearly,” reports TheEpochTimes.

A look at Twitter shows people from across the globe paying tribute to Maryland civil servant by sharing and making trend a months-old tweet:
