CAMBRIDGE, MA. (thecount) — Harvard University officials sent an alert to campus Tuesday asking everyone to shelter in place or otherwise avoid part of Harvard Square on Monday.

The alert, which was sent by the university’s MessageMe emergency notification system, said police were searching the area of JFK and Eliot Streets for a “potentially armed assailant.”

Several emergency vehicles, including an armored vehicle, were seen working in the area.
