MODESTO, CA. (THECOUNT) — Stephen Murray, of Modesto, California, has been identified as the suspect fatally shot by Stanislaus County deputies Wednesday night.
Murray, 52, was shot and killed during a hostage situation Wednesday night, the Modesto Police Department said.

The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office were investigating a kidnapping and false imprisonment incident near Vine Street & Madison Street, in Modesto, CA, when they located Murray.
The sheriff’s office obtained a Ramey warrant for Murray’s arrest and spotted him with the victim in the case. When deputies tried to arrest him, Murray took the victim the hostage with a firearm, according to KCRA.
Murray was shot dead by police.
The victim was not injured during the incident.
The weapon Murray brandish ended up being a replica firearm, police said.
The shooting remains under investigation.
Officers involved in the shooting were placed on administrative leave as is standard procedure.
