WASHINGTON COUNTY, FL. (THECOUNT) — John Goedtke, from Tampa, has been identified as the hit-and-run suspect accused of mowing down three linemen who were working to restore power in the Panhandle after Hurricane Michael.

Goedtke, 37, struck and killed two linemen and injured a third who was airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition in a double-fatal crash on Florida 77 in Washington County just before 7 p.m. Wednesday.

Deputies say Goedtke struck the workers and fled the crash scene, but was spotted by a Chipley police officer and taken into custody.

Records say, Goedtke has been arrested in Hillsborough County a staggering 27 times since the age of 19.

In the past he’s been in trouble for drugs, battery, driving with a suspended or revoked license, grand theft, grand theft of motor vehicle, fraudulent use of a credit card, burglary, felony fleeing to elude, reckless driving, and resisting an officer with violence. source

The linemen have not yet been identified.

FHP said the investigation in ongoing.
