Police have identified the a victim of a murder in Des Moines Saturday morning. TheCount.com found out the dead man, Darnell Lee, is the same man arrested after escaping from Fort Des Moines Work Release Facility in 2012.
The following are comments in Lee’s 2012 arrest. He was 21 at the time.

“Lee was placed on escape status following an unexcused absence from the facility. Lee was transferred to work release on April 12, 2012. This sentence began on October 10, 2010. Information as to Lee’s whereabouts should be reported to the Des Moines Police Department or Polk County Sheriff’s Department.”
In 2015, Lee was booked in Polk County, IA on 3/21/2015 on the following charges:
NARCS – POSSESS W / INTENT DELIVER SCH I, TAX STAMP VIOLATION – Possession or Distribution of Unlawful, FAIL TO APPEAR – CITATION, FAIL TO APPEAR – CITATION, FAIL TO APPEAR – CITATION, FAIL TO APPEAR – CITATION, FAIL TO APPEAR – CITATION, FAIL TO APPEAR – CITATION, FAIL TO APPEAR – CITATION, ASSAULT, FAILURE TO APPEAR, FAILURE TO APPEAR, FAILURE TO APPEAR.
Lee, 26, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting early Saturday morning.
Detectives are interviewing witnesses and investigating the case.
