HORRY COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT) — A pedestrian was killed following an early morning crash in Horry County, South Carolina, located in the northeastern coastal region of the state near the Myrtle Beach metropolitan area.

The fatal incident occurred at approximately 4:22 a.m. Monday along on-ramp 5820, which connects Highway 707 to Highway 31.

According to the South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2018 Kia sedan was traveling north from Highway 707 toward Highway 31 on the ramp when it struck a pedestrian who was walking in the roadway.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene, where the pedestrian was pronounced deceased as a result of injuries sustained in the collision.

The identity of the pedestrian has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.

Officials stated that the driver of the Kia, who remained at the scene, was not injured in the crash. No additional information has been released regarding the driver.

The on-ramp where the incident occurred serves as a connector between Highway 707 and the Carolina Bays Parkway, also known as Highway 31, a major route that runs through Horry County and provides access to the Grand Strand region.

Authorities have not released further details regarding contributing factors, including visibility conditions, impairment, or why the pedestrian was in the roadway at the time of the crash.
