Guthrie, where Anderson resided, is the county seat of Logan County in central Oklahoma, situated approximately 30 miles north of downtown Oklahoma City along Interstate 35. The city has a population of roughly 11,000 residents and is known for its exceptionally well-preserved Victorian-era architecture, earning it a place on the National Register of Historic Places as one of the largest historic districts in the United States. Guthrie served as the first capital of Oklahoma following statehood in 1907 before the capital was moved to Oklahoma City in 1910. The community draws tourists annually to its downtown historic district, opera house, and Scottish Rite Masonic Temple — one of the largest Masonic temples in the world by square footage. Logan County covers approximately 745 square miles of central Oklahoma terrain with a total population of roughly 48,000 residents, many of whom commute daily to Oklahoma City along the I-35 corridor.
The crash occurred in Oklahoma County, the most populous county in the state with approximately 800,000 residents, anchored by Oklahoma City, the state capital. The county borders Logan County to the north, where Anderson lived, placing the distance between his home community and the crash site at roughly 30 miles. Interstate 40 serves as one of the primary east-west transportation corridors through the county, connecting Oklahoma City to communities throughout eastern and western Oklahoma and linking the state to the broader transcontinental I-40 corridor stretching from California to North Carolina.
The section of I-40 just west of the Kickapoo Turnpike interchange sits in the eastern portion of Oklahoma County, where the highway passes through a mix of rural and developing suburban landscape east of the Oklahoma City metro core. The Kickapoo Turnpike, officially designated State Highway 177, connects I-40 to Shawnee and the Potawatomi Nation tribal complex in Pottawatomie County to the southeast. The bridge support that Anderson’s vehicle struck is part of the overpass infrastructure that carries cross traffic over the interstate at that interchange.
Oklahoma City, the county seat of Oklahoma County and the state capital, is the largest city in the state with a population exceeding 680,000. The broader Oklahoma City metropolitan statistical area encompasses Oklahoma, Canadian, Cleveland, Grady, Lincoln, Logan, and McClain counties with a combined population of approximately 1.4 million. The metro area is served by Integris Health, Mercy Hospital Oklahoma City, OU Health, and several other major medical systems, with the University of Oklahoma Medical Center serving as the region’s primary Level I trauma facility.
No funeral arrangements for Nolan Anderson have been announced. Anyone with possible information about the crash is encouraged to contact the Oklahoma Highway Patrol.
