NORTH OLMSTED, OH. (THECOUNT.COM) — John Johnson, 37, of Lorain, Ohio, was shot and killed Wednesday following an armed Brinks truck robbery, a high-speed police pursuit across two counties, and a hostage situation that ended inside a North Olmsted apartment complex, according to authorities.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner identified Johnson as the man fatally wounded during an officer-involved shooting that occurred after a series of escalating events that began earlier in the day in Lorain County.

Police said Johnson allegedly robbed a Brinks armored truck at gunpoint on West River Road in Elyria. The robbery prompted an immediate law enforcement response, and officers attempted to stop Johnson as he fled the scene.
Authorities said Johnson led police on a pursuit that traveled through multiple jurisdictions, including the cities of Elyria and Lorain, before crossing into neighboring Cuyahoga County. Police have not released details regarding the speed of the chase or whether other vehicles were involved.
The pursuit ended in North Olmsted after Johnson crashed his vehicle near the area of Clareshire Drive. According to police, Johnson exited the crashed vehicle and ran into a nearby apartment complex.
Once inside the complex, authorities said Johnson forced his way into a residence and took a woman hostage. Police identified the woman as a mother of four. Officers said she was forced into her home while Johnson was armed.
Multiple law enforcement agencies responded to the scene as the situation unfolded. During the confrontation, an Elyria police officer discharged a firearm, striking Johnson.
Johnson was transported by emergency medical personnel to Fairview Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner later confirmed his identity and cause of death.
The officer who fired the fatal shot has not been publicly identified. Authorities have not released information regarding administrative leave or internal review procedures, which are commonly initiated following officer-involved shootings.
Police confirmed the hostage was not physically injured during the incident. No officers were reported injured.
