FORREST COUNTY, MISS. (THECOUNT) — Louis Claiborne III, 28, of Newton, Mississippi, has been identified as the victim of a fatal crash that occurred Wednesday on Interstate 59 in Forrest County, according to the Mississippi Highway Patrol.

Authorities said Claiborne had been driving a 2025 Buick Enclave northbound on I-59 when his vehicle collided with an 18-wheeler that was slowing due to traffic ahead. Mississippi Highway Patrol officials confirmed Claiborne was transported to a local hospital following the crash, where he later died from his injuries.

The collision resulted in significant traffic disruptions along the interstate. The Mississippi Department of Transportation issued an alert indicating that all lanes of Interstate 59 were blocked in the aftermath of the wreck as emergency responders worked at the scene. Lanes were reopened several hours later.

Interstate 59 is a major transportation corridor running through south Mississippi and is heavily traveled by both passenger vehicles and commercial traffic. Crashes involving large commercial vehicles often result in severe outcomes due to the size and weight differences involved.

Authorities have not released information regarding injuries to the driver of the 18-wheeler or whether additional vehicles were involved. Investigators also have not announced whether any charges are expected or if factors such as speed, traffic congestion, or mechanical issues contributed to the crash.

The Mississippi Highway Patrol said the investigation remains ongoing as troopers continue working to determine the exact circumstances that led to the collision.

No additional details were immediately available.

Editor’s Note: The victim was incorrectly identified by local news outlets as Louis “Clairborne.” The erroneous information may have stemmed from incorrect reporting provided by officials.
