RICHLAND COUNTY, ND. (THECOUNT) — Jeremiah Jeffrey Medenwald, of Hankinson, North Dakota, has been identified as the victim in a Monday night fatal shooting in Richland County.

Medenwald, 40, was fatally shot multiple times while inside a vehicle in Wahpeton Monday night.

According to reports, first responders responded to a call of shots fired near Wahpeton High School on 11th Street North in Wahpeton, around 7:11 p.m. Monday.

At some point, a vehicle with apparent bullets holes came to a stop nearby.

Medenwald, who was seated inside the vehicle, was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

The shooting caused a lockdown the Wahpeton High arena where hockey and wrestling practices were being held.

The shooter is described as a 6-foot-2 man in jeans with a black hoodie and black mask. Police do not think he is a threat to the general public.

Investigators ask anyone with video of the area or possible information on Medenwald’s whereabouts before 7:11 p.m. to contact the Wahpeton Police Department at 701-642-7722 and asked to speak with Sgt. Teberg.
