OKLAHOMA COUNTY, OK. (THECOUNT) — Daniel Howard, a Fort Hays State University football player, has been identified as the victim in a Sunday fatal shooting in Oklahoma County, Oklahoma. Howard had recently transferred to Fort Hays after playing two seasons at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

Howard, 22, was killed in a New Year’s Day shooting in Oklahoma City.

According to reports, police responded to a call of shots fired at Sunset Patio Bar on Northwest 10th Street in Oklahoma City around 12:30 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, five people were found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

Howard was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.

Four other individuals were transported to area hospitals in unknown condition.

OKC police determined a fight broke out at the bar and it spilled into a nearby parking lot where shots were fired.

Howard played two seasons at Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and was a two-time all-conference selection before transferring to Fort Hays State University. He also played at Millwood High School in Oklahoma City, where he was a member of two state championship teams.

No suspect or motive information was provided by officials.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
