VANDERBURGH COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Todd Keith Roll, of Evansville, Indiana, has been identified as the victim in an apparent random fatal shooting in Vanderburgh County early Sunday morning.

Roll, 49, was shot dead, and 21-year-old Brandon Francis Schaefer, was arrested, in a fatal Sunday morning homicide in Evansville.

According to reports, officers responded to Showplace Cinemas North on North 3rd Avenue in Evansville, on reports of a homicide. When they arrived, Roll was found in back of the theater suffering from a gunshot wound to the head.

Roll was pronounced dead of gunshot injuries at the scene.

Schaefer allegedly admitted that he had just shot someone in the head and mentioned the body was behind the theater. Police say Schaefer told them he “just wanted to kill someone.”

According to tristatehomepage, a woman talked with dispatch claiming Schaefer called her and said he had shot someone behind the theater and was also going to shoot himself.

According to authorities, Schaefer surrendered at his apartment and was taken into custody without incident. Schaefer allegedly told detectives that he did not know the victim and admitted that he approached the victim and shot him.

Schaefer was booked into the Vanderburgh County Jail on no bond. He faces a single charge of Murder.

Officials say an autopsy is scheduled for Monday afternoon and the cause and manner of death are pending the results of that examination.
