TARRANT COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Phillip Dale Hughes, of Richland Hills, Texas, has been identified as the suspect arrested in the stabbing death of his 8-year-old grandson Sunday morning in Tarrant County.

Hughes, 62, was arrested in connection to the fatal stabbing of his young grandson at a Richland Hills residence on Sunday morning.

According to reports, police responded to 3509 Labadie Drive in Richland Hills on reports of a disturbance around 8 a.m. Sunday. When they arrived, an 8-year-old boy was found suffering from apparent stab wounds.

The boy was pronounced dead of stab wound injuries at the scene.

Officers located Hughes near the home and recovered the suspected murder weapon.

Authorities released no further details about the events that led up to the fatal stabbing.

Hughes has transported to the Joint Detention Center. He is being held on a capital murder charge.
