ALLEGANY COUNTY, MD. (THECOUNT) — Corey Douglas McElroy, of Friendsville, Maryland, has been identified as the Garrett County Sheriff’s deputy killed in a Tuesday night vehicle crash in Allegany County, Maryland.
McElroy, 31, was killed in a three-vehicle crash involving a tractor-trailer in Frostburg Tuesday night.

According to reports, McElroy was operating a unmarked governmental Ford Explorer on Interstate 68 near Route 36 in Frostburg, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck around 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Explorer then traveled into opposite lanes and came into contact with a Ford F350 pickup truck.
McElroy, a former Marine, was airlifted to Ruby Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.
McElroy was traveling home from the Police Academy to attend the graduation of a family member when the crash occurred.
He leaves behind two small children.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
