BARTHOLOMEW COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Damion Bryant, of Edinburgh, Indiana, has been identified as the suspect arrested in a Thursday fatal shooting in Bartholomew County.

Bryant, 20, is facing a murder charge after he shot and killed a person on Thanksgiving, the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Office said. Online reports identified the victim as 73-year-old Wayne McGeorge. Officials have not yet identified the victim.

Angie McGeorge, who claims to be the shooter’s mother, said her son fatally shot her “kid’s dad” and for that “he can rot in there,” presumably meaning in jail.

According to reports, police responded to a call of shots fired at 15178 North Bluff Road in Edinburgh around 6:15 p.m. Thursday. When they arrived, a man in his 70s was found suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.

The victim was transported to an area hospital where he was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.

The sheriff’s office confirmed Bryant as the shooter. He was interviewed by detectives and is being held without bond at the Bartholomew County Jail on a preliminary charge of murder, per BCSO.

“At this time the investigation is ongoing, we will not be releasing further details surrounding this incident at this time,” said BCSO Detective Dane Duke in a news release.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
