RICHLAND COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT) — Two people were killed in a crash and resulting fire involving a 2021 Tesla Sunday morning in Richland County, South Carolina.

The fiery single-vehicle Tesla crash occurred Sunday morning near Irmo and Lake Murray.

According to South Carolina Highway Patrol, a 2021 Tesla was traveling west on Salem Church Road in Irmo, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle exited the roadway before making contact with a tree. The vehicle then burst into flames.

Both the driver and front seat passenger were pronounced dead of blunt force trauma and thermal injuries at the scene.

The identities of the victims was not provided by officials.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
