RICHLAND COUNTY, SC. (THECOUNT) — Jermaine Antonio Goss, an inmate housed at Richland County Broad River Correctional Institution, has been identified as the fatality following an apparent fight with another inmate Saturday.
Goss, 36, who was arrested in 2017 on charges of Criminal Sexual Conduct with a minor or Attempt – victim under 11 yrs of age in the First Degree, died at the hospital following a fight at the Columbia prison on Saturday.

According to a spokesperson for the South Carolina Department of Corrections, the fight happened at the facility and initially left one of those involved critically injured.
Authorities say, Goss was engaged a fight with his cellmate and then hospitalized due to his injuries. It was at the hospital that authorities say Goss later died.
According to an August 2017 incident report, a woman contacted 911 stating she had observe Goss having inappropriate relations with a child.
A warrant stated Goss engaged in sexual battery by penile/vaginal penetration.
At the time, Goss denied the accusation, the report states.
It is not known if Goss’ current incarceration was related to the 2017 charges.
The SCDC Office of Investigations and Intelligence is investigating the death, as are the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division and the Richland County Coroner’s Office.
An autopsy is also scheduled.
