JACKSON COUNTY, IA. (THECOUNT) — UPDATE: According to Cedar Falls Mayor Rob Green, Tyler and Sarah Schmidt‘s 9-year-old son Arlo survived the brutal attack. The couple and their 6-year-old daughter Lula did not.

Green went on to say that the family were his neighbors and Sarah was an employee at the Cedar Falls Public Library.

In the Facebook post, Green writes, ā€œIā€™m devastated. I knew Sarah well, and she & her family were regular walkers here in the Sartori Park neighborhood. I was working with her this week on a public library tech presentation for 7/26.ā€

Tyler Schmidt, Sarah Schmidt and Lulu Schmidt, all of Cedar Falls, Iowa, have been identified as the victims in a triple-fatal murder in Jackson County, Iowa.

Tyler and Sarah, both 42, and Lulu, 6, were all shot dead Friday morning while inside their tent at Maquoketa Caves State Park in Maquoketa, Iowa.

23-year-old Anthony Sherwin, of La Vista, Nebraska, has been identified as the deceased suspect in the grisly murder of the family. He was found dead of a self-inflicted gunshot injury at the scene.

It is unknown what relation, if any, Sherwin had to the family.

The motive is unknown.

The entire park was evacuated and remained closed throughout the day.
