IREDELL COUNTY, NC. (THECOUNT) — Robert Douglas Shumate, of Statesville, North Carolina, has been identified as the victim in a fatal vehicle crash in Iredell County Friday night.
Shumate, 60, was killed in a Friday night suspected DUI crash near Statesville.

According to reports, Shumate and Karri Burchette, 28, were traveling as passengers in a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, operated by 27-year-old Cheyanne Pardue, on the 1990 block of West Memorial Highway in Union Grove, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway Friday night.
The vehicle then struck a mailbox before making contact with a large brick sign for the Union Grove Fire Department building. The vehicle then rolled over.
Shumate was killed in the crash.
Burchette suffered unknown injuries.
Pardue was charged with DWI and additional charges are forthcoming. Her injuries re unknown.
Impairment and speed are believed to be factors in the crash, the highway patrol reported.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
