LOS ANGELES, CA. (THECOUNT) — L.A.P.D. on Tuesday released images of suspect, 31-year-old Shawn Laval Smith, who is accused of the brutal fatal stabbing of 24-year-old graduate student Brianna Kupfer, who was working at a furniture store in the Hancock Park area of Los Angeles.

Smith is described as 6-foot-3, 190-pound homeless black man. He is considered “armed and dangerous.”

The fatal incident occurred at Croft House, 326 N La Brea Ave in Los Angeles.

Smith, who had been released without bail in 2020, is being sought in the stabbing death of the graduate student.

Police in Corvina, California, said Smith was arrested Oct. 27, 2020, on a misdemeanor charge for allegedly taking items from a Home Depot store and was released on bail. Charges were never brought against Smith.

Kupfer, who had graduated from the University of Miami and was in a master’s program for architectural design at UCLA, was stabbed to death Thursday while working alone at Croft House in the Hancock Park area, according to KNBC-TV.

A $250,000 reward has been offered for information in the capture of Smith.
