HARRIS COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Musician Travis Scott says he will pay funeral expenses for the eight victims of a deadly crowd surge at his Astroworld Festival on Nov. 5.
Eight people died and more than 300 were injured during Scott’s set last week, with those among the dead ranging from 14 and to 27 years old. John Hilgert, 14, was a young baseball enthusiast who got Astroworld tickets for his birthday; Franco Patino was a college student studying biomedical engineering to help his mother; Brianna Rodriguez was a “beautiful, vibrant” aspiring dancer; Danish Baig was an AT&T employee who reportedly died trying to save his wife; and Rudy Peña was the youngest of five siblings, a former high school football player studying criminal justice at Laredo College.

Authorities are still gathering information on the victims, who also included Franco’s best friend, college student and graphic artist Jacob Jurinek; computer science student Axel Acosta; and University of Mississippi student Madison Dubiski.
Scott also announced that he has partnered with BetterHelp to supply free online therapy to attendees in need.
Scott will also be issuing refunds to all attendees of his Astroworld Festival. The concert ended in tragedy this past weekend.
According to XXL, Scott will reportedly be reimbursing concertgoers who attended his annual Houston event that left eight dead and 25 others hospitalized.
The rapper also won’t be performing for his scheduled set at Day N’ Vegas Festival this upcoming weekend in Las Vegas. Travis was booked as a headliner for the two-day event and was supposed to perform on Sat., Nov. 13.
A source close to the rapper described him as being “too distraught to play.”
On Friday (Nov. 5), after months of prepping and teasing, Travis Scott held his Astroworld Festival at NRG Park in his hometown of Houston. However, things took a turn for the worse once a crowd surge occurred during his performance, causing fans to compress towards the stage around 9 p.m.
Hundreds of attendees at the event, which reportedly had somewhere near 50,000 people present, were stuck in the surge. The festival, which was officially declared a mass casualty event, ended in eight deaths while 25 people were hospitalized. Of those two dozen individuals who were transported to the hospital, 11 suffered cardiac arrest.
