JOHNSON COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Austin James Norris, of Greenwood, Indiana, has been identified as the teen killed in a Thursday night vehicle crash in Johnson County.

Norris, 16, was killed in a single-vehicle crash that left another teen, Hunter Wylie Riffle, in critical condition near Greenwood Thursday night.

According to reports, Riffle was operating a Volkswagen GTI hatchback on the 1600 block of South Paddock Road in Greenwood, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 7:30 p.m. Thursday. The vehicle then came into contact with a substantial tree.

Norris was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.

Riffle was transported to an area hospital in critical condition.

Anyone who possibly witnessed the crash or saw the Volkswagen with license plate LW1183 prior to the crash is asked to contact the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office at 317-346-4615.

Deputies are looking to speak with the driver of a smaller-style light-colored gray SUV with a luggage container on top who may have seen the Volkswagen before to the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
