ESSEX COUNTY, MA. (THECOUNT) — Stephanie Gerardi, of Saugus, Massachusetts, has been identified as the woman fatally shot by a police officer Saturday at her home in Essex County.
Gerardi, 38, was fatally shot in an officer involved incident near Saugus Saturday evening.

According to reports, officers confronted Gerardi who was allegedly brandishing a knife at her home, located at 3 Alfred Road in Saugus around 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
Saugus officers were responding to the home following a request for assistance with a family member in distress, the district attorney’s office said in a news release.
Authorities said Gerardi held a knife and confronted the officers upon their arrival, and that one officer fired his service weapon striking her three times.
Gerardi was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.
No officers were injured, but they were taken to an area hospital as a precaution, police said.
The officer involved was placed on administrative leave according to department policy, while the district attorney’s office and Essex State Police Detective Unit investigate the shooting.
